Kuwait to sign deal for new airport control tower

Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is all set to sign a key contract for the establishment of a new control tower at the Kuwait International Airport, said a report.

The KD9.2 million ($30.1 million) deal also includes design, manufacture, installation as well as its operation, maintenance and technical support, reported Arab Times.

DGCA had earlier revealed that the new air control tower will be equipped with four major new systems.

These include a highly advanced radar system (a first of its kind in the Middle East); an automated aircraft control system, an advanced communication system between the air traffic controller and the plane’s crew, as well as an indicative lighting system for aircraft, stated the report.

According to DGCA officials, the contract also involves provision of training to its staff and guaranteed services of the new control tower equipment in addition to its integration with Kuwait International Airport.

The infrastructure development project for Kuwait International Airport will contribute to linking new projects to each other, operating them, and providing their systems with the latest international systems, they added.
